
7-YEAR
PATHWAY - RESEARCH PROGRAM
The Department of
Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of Mississippi
Medical Center now offers a position for a medical school graduate
interested in pursuing a career in academic orthopedic medicine.
This 7 year program begins with two years of research and, upon
successful completion, will be followed by the standard five-year
orthopedic surgery residency. During the two year period you
will be enrolled in a Masters program with Ph.D. potential with
all educational tuition and travel expenses covered.
The
research experience is
guided by a Clinical Mentor in Orthopedic Surgery and Basic Science
Mentors including our research coordinator Michelle
Tucci, Ph.D. Duties include the design and execution
of clinical and basic science research protocols, submitting abstracts
and grant applications, attending weekly research planning meetings,
and participation in Orthopedic journal clubs and morning conference.
There are no ward or call responsibilities during this 2 year program.
We accept one person per year. Salary for the first two years
is equal to that of our PGY-1 house officers. Benefits are
those of employees of UMMC.
Anyone interested in applying

Medical Education department. They must also
qualify for licensure upon completion of the two years by the Mississippi
State Board of Medical Licensure.
